Black Project x Paddle Logger Collaboration

——

phone rings

“Hey Dave - how’s it going?”

“errmmmm.. good thanks [yawns] - how’s things with you?”

“Great - are you still in bed? It’s Chris here at Black Project, have you got time to talk about some ideas!”

“Yeah - it’s early here! What do you want?”

——

The above is a representation of a conversation between Chris Freeman at Black Project Hawai’i and myself (David) here at Paddle Logger. If it wasn’t obvious Chris is based in Hawai’i and as many of you already know I am based in the UK. There is a time difference.

Personally I have been using Black Project Fins and Paddles for SUP for the past couple of years now and highly rate the equipment and innovation that Chris is putting out. Whenever we are testing Paddle Logger we always ensure that before updates are released a certain amount of on water testing is done. Putting the app through it’s paces in the real world. More often than not it means me heading out for a few hours in varying conditions checking everything is working as we expect and ensuring that what we have theorised is easy to use and makes sense for the paddler. Naturally the use of Black Project equipment has become a part of that testing process.

Over the other side of the world, Chris is building paddles and designing fins. Including using Paddle Logger on the Apple Watch as part of their paddle and fin testing process. For Chris testing equipment requires a focus on repetition and paddling. So using Paddle Logger to handle the data element while focusing on the physical aspect of testing make it a natural fit. Especially as it means being able to easily review different variations and make equipment adjustments.

It is worth pointing out at this point that the use of each other’s products in our own respective development cycles was reasonably organic - in fact I don’t think we had properly spoken to each other until this point.

So cutting back to the phone call, I am woken up by an enthusiastic Chris overflowing with epic ideas of how we might be able to collaborate as the world is thrown into confusion and lockdowns with the pandemic that struck last year. After a few coffees to get myself going we got down to chatting. One of the major outcomes was that it was clear there was something to be done together, starting with a collaboration that combines two elements of our respective brands. Maximum performance/reward - reduced effort.

Paddle Logger will help you easily track you sessions and also share real-time updates with friends and family. Something that is increasingly more important as many of us are still having to train alone due to restrictions. The Black Project Hydro FlowX is a revolutionary design that aims to get you paddling fast with less strain and effort on your body. Between both products, freeing up your mind and reducing your fatigue enables you to concentrate on technique adjustments, maximising each stroke and making sure you are the best paddler you can be.
